Keeping Track
Feb 8th, 2010 by knittykat
Twenty more rows before I start the lacey edge of Cuddle My Shoulders shawlette. It seems slow but I have spent a lot of time finishing the first mystery sock for March preview–I’m giving you a glimpse of the pretty design. The second sock is started and is now through the first pattern repeat.
I have been complaining to DH that I don’t get enough knitting done this time of the year even through the office knitting goes on (in ten minute segments). There are just too many interruptions! Don’t these people know that I have shawls and socks to finish?
Without my notes I would never be able to remember where I left off. Do you keep a knitting notebook? This has been the topic of several blog posts I’ve read lately. Knitting Daily had an article a week ago about graphing and sketching, both things I do in my notebooks. I only started keeping notes about three years ago and it has been especially helpful when I knit a project for the second or third time (like Lavalette) and have information about modifications I’ve made to make the finished product work for me.
I can’t say enough good things about note-sketch-graph books. I even include a finished photo of the project. It’s fun to go back later and look at them. Forgive me for speechifying. I’m taking off my lecture hat now. (Oops, I didn’t look at that before I put it on–it was my dunce cap).
Macy and Max are cold and have decided to hibernate:

You will notice that the door to Max’s crate is open and his bedding is “prepared” to suit him. All Macy needs is a nose warmer.

Love your projects and your dogs are so cute.Hugs Darcy
Thanks Darcy! The projects are coming along slowly and the dogs are just too cute to tolerate sometimes. LOL
I have several notebooks but usually can’t find them when I want them. Your socks are looking great!
That’s so funny because DH and I had to turn the office upside down yesterday to find my notebook so I could take the picture. I leave them everywhere!
Love the name “Cuddle my Shoulders” Shawlette. That sounds wonderful
I do keep a knitting journal….my only problem is trying to decipher my notes!
I am nowhere near that organize Katherine. Also if I had to knit it three times, I’d just quit. you are inspiring
As for the socks, you are just too funny….hmmmmwhat is under there??? Cables? Looks like lace though……
Macy is awful cute when cold……
Cricket got altered today, shall we say. He is a sore boy with a shameful cone on his neck………..
Tell Cricket that Max had his turn two weeks ago and survived even though he tried to tell us he was dying. Macy showed him no mercy! The socks–there is something delightful under that ball of yarn! Lace? Maybe. Sorta. Worth the wait!
Yes, I have that problem too and as I told Marti, I can never find the journal when I need it.
Hmmmmm . . . now that you mention it, I ordered a project book a week or two ago, and I don’t remember when it was supposed to ship.
Kudos on the top-down socks. I don’t do DPNs, and I’m in awe of those who do. I only do toe-up socks with circulars.
Cathie,
When the mystery sock posts at the end of the month I hope you will not hesitate to knit it toe up. The design is one that will work in either direction. Let me know if you decide to try it.
I too have a notebook. I keep notes on patterns I am working on, interesting techniques (I print and glue those in), I even have a sketch or 2 in it.
I hear ya on the ‘prepared bedding’ for the furries. My cat will meow at me non stop until I put the afghan back on the footstool-if I dared to move it.
I’m glad to hear that you keep a notebook too. I think they are essential to knitting!
Isn’t it fun keeping the furries happy and going through their little routines with them. What would we do without them?
